A language model like the one behind ChatGPT reads and writes well, but doesn't know your business. A custom AI chat gets access to your own information. Think of:
- Answering customer questions on your website, also outside office hours.
- Searching your own documents, such as manuals, terms or a knowledge base, just by asking a question.
- Asking for figures in plain language, for example from an SQL database or BigQuery, without writing a query yourself.
- A chat in your existing software, such as a Laravel application.
How I make the answers reliable
A language model on its own sometimes guesses. That's why I combine it with a few techniques:
- A custom harness with custom tools. The harness is the code around the language model: it decides what information the model gets and what happens with the answer. I build the tools for your business, so the AI can look up and do exactly what's needed, and nothing more. No off-the-shelf chat package.
- MCP (Model Context Protocol). With it, the AI can safely use other programs and data sources, for example to look something up. You decide what it may see and do.
- Cloud Run. The chat runs on Google Cloud without a server of your own. You only pay for what you use.
An example: a harness that combines data from different sources, checks the calculations and delivers the key figures the same way every time. The model doesn't do sums in its head: the tools do the calculating, the model explains what comes out. So there are no made-up figures in the answer.

For small and medium-sized businesses that get the same questions a lot, or have lots of information that is hard to find. The chat can be for your customers, or just for your own team.
How it works

- We look at what information it needs, and what it must not see.
- I build a first version and you ask it your own questions. Where it goes wrong, we adjust.
- The chat goes live on your website or in your software.

What is an AI chatbot?
A program you talk to in plain language, and that answers in plain language. It runs on a large language model (LLM). Unlike older chatbots with fixed buttons and scripts, it also understands questions nobody thought of in advance.
Can an AI chatbot make mistakes?
Yes. A language model can say something that sounds right but isn't. That's why I have it answer from your own sources and tools, not from its memory. That makes the answers a lot more reliable, but not flawless.
Does it work in other languages?
Yes. The large language models understand and write English, Dutch and many other languages well.
Which AI model do you use?
That depends on the task and the budget. There are models from OpenAI, Anthropic, Google and Mistral, among others, and prices vary a lot. On apicost.app you can compare them side by side.
What does an AI chatbot cost?
There are two kinds of cost: building it, and using the language model per question. Building depends on what the chat has to do; there are no fixed prices on this site. Tell me what you want in the contact form and you'll get an estimate of both.
